Playworld Systems, a leading manufacturer of imaginative playground and fitness equipment, announced in late September several playground projects that were made possible because of the support from three NFL teams: the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles.
On May 5 of last year, the Atlanta Falcons helped to build a playground at 595 Magnolia Street, adjacent to the Falcons stadium. This new playground demonstrates the team’s long-standing commitment to bring the benefits of play to younger fans in the community.
Several years ago, Playworld Systems’ began its relationship with the Falcons through Park Pride, a Green Space Advocacy group. Arthur Blank, the owner of the Falcons and co-founder of The Home Depot, is a major donor to the organization. Thanks to the support of Park Pride, Arthur Blank and members of the Atlanta Falcons, enough money was donated to build a new playground next to the bright lights of the Georgia Dome.
New playgrounds have been built throughout Ohio because of support from the Cleveland Browns. This past spring, the team purchased play and fitness equipment from PlayWorld Systems to create its “Browns’ FitnessZones.” The team also participates in the “Hometown Huddle,” a nationwide platform for promoting outdoor fitness, in the fall.
By the end of next year, the Browns will have completed six playground projects with Playworld Systems. The team selected Playworld Systems’ ENERGI Jr., equipment ergonomically designed for pre-teens and teens ages 9-14 and combines functional fitness and body weight-training for an optimal workout, for several of its Fitness Zones.
In addition to reading, writing and arithmetic, recess is also an integral part of the school day. For children at the Benjamin B. Comegys Elementary School in Philadelphia, a new playground, courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles, has helped start off the school year on an exciting note. The new playground was installed in late spring and features a variety of equipment to help keep children active and healthy. A rubberized surface was also installed.
Professional football players and the NFL understand the importance of ensuring youth remain physically fit. The playgrounds in Georgia, Ohio and Pennsylvania provide space for children to be outside and active, which are core principles of the NFL PLAY 60 program, the National Football League's campaign to encourage kids to be active for 60 minutes a day in order to help reverse the trend of childhood obesity.
