Mid-Winter Play Day

Get ready for the annual Mid-Winter Play day!!

This year’s event will be on Sunday, February 14 at the Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Avenue). Enjoy dress up, face painting, giant chess, cookie decorating mud pies, fun with boxes and lots of great entertainment, let your hair down, play with play-doh, put on your comfy shoes and get ready to PLAY! Pennsylvania Amusement Ride Safety Seminar

These workshops are presented by an ACCT PVM panel and are recommended in preparation for the exams. However, you must be registered for the Extreme Sports – Spring 2016 full seminar as the workshops are included in the registration price and offered by the Pennsylvania Amusement Ride Safety Seminar – Extreme Sports – Spring 2016.

National Farm to School Month

October is National Farm to School Month, a time to celebrate the connections that are happening all over the country between schools and local food. In 2010, Congress approved a resolution to officially designate October as National Farm to School Month. The passage of House Resolution 1655 demonstrated the growing importance of Farm to School programs as a means to improve child nutrition, support local economies and educate children about the origins of food.

UN World Habitat Day

The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. This year, it will be celebrated on 7 October 2013. The purpose of World Habitat Day is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world that we all have responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns.

Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day continues the celebration of the 20th anniversary with 20 YEARS: WORKING FOR YOUR RIGHTS as its theme but with the emphasis on the future and identifying the challenges that lie ahead. Human Rights Day is held on 10 December every year, the date the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaiming its principles as the “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.”

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

One in 3 children in the United States is overweight or obese. Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.  We can all use this month to raise awareness about the obesity epidemic and show people how they can take steps toward a solution.
